Built by a creative.
Michigan Flower Barn is a collective model business combining local flora agriculture and floristry. We operate by working with local farmers in Michigan to support our local economy. MFB is committed to providing an inclusive space for our creative community. Our mission is to improve the standard of the cut-flower industry while reducing the carbon footprint, by making slow-grown flowers accessible to everyone.

From a flower truck to a whole new model
What happens when a designer moves to a farm and needs more flowers than she can possibly grow? Meet the founder and creative person behind MFB – Josephine.
The farm and other goals
Josephine and her husband knew after they got married and started having kids, they wanted space to pursue their creative ventures. After lots of hard work and saving, they landed on a small farm between Owosso and Perry in Mid-Michigan. While raising babies and doing graphic and floral design from home, she started studying flower farming in 2018. Her goal: to use only locally grown flowers in her event & floral designs.
The Michigan Flower Truck
Josephine launches a mobile flower pop-up selling bouquets made with 100% locally grown blooms. Customers love it — demand grows fast. But keeping the truck stocked means driving across the state to source from other farms every week.
The problem becomes obvious
At monthly community farmer gatherings, Josephine begins to network and realizes lots of fellow growers shared the same need: a consistent way to sell their flowers so they could focus on farming. She knew the design trends and had a need for more flowers, had connections to other farmers with stems to sell – so the problem became clear: no central hub connecting them.
Michigan Flower Barn is born
Josephine turns her farm into that a that hub in her century old cathedral barn. The MFB flower collective is developed at the end of 2020, and launches in Spring of 2021. Local farmers bring their harvest, and buyers of all kinds, from wedding couples to florists to DIY groups – everyone could get access to the best locally grown flowers from more farmers in the state.
A collective of farmers and more
Today, MFB aggregates blooms from over a dozen Michigan flower farms. The team has grown to include event pros, floral designers, and longtime wedding industry professionals — all committed to making sustainable, locally grown flowers accessible to everyone, providing practical and ethical design options.
Flowers are for everyone, always.
MI Flower Barn proudly provides flowers for all humans, couples, and celebrations — regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity, race, ethnicity. We believe love is love, and flowers are always appropriate.
We would like to acknowledge that Michigan Flower Barn was built on and occupies the traditional lands of the Peoria, Anishinaabe, Odawa, Wyandot, Sauk, Mississauga and many other Indigenous people.
