The Farmer's Notes

5 stems, approximately 15" stem

Peonies are harvested in marshmallow stage and dry stored until the Tuesday before market.  Marshmallow stage is soft, but not exploding.  It will hold in your cooler in water in a mostly closed shape, or you will need to leave it out for the peonies to open.  Semi-doubles do open faster than double or bomb peonies.

This is an unknown semi-double coral variety that someone gave me.  There is some browning on the stems (probably botrytis) that is not attractive if the stems will be seen in event work; however, I have tested a couple of stems and the flowers open beautifully and unblemished.

About Peony

Big, blowsy, and unapologetically romantic, the peony is the flower Michigan brides and gardeners wait all year for. Grown by our farmer collective and cut at the soft-bud stage, ours open into lush globes right on your table.

I share our little farmette with my husband Jim, our dog Glory, two cats, three horses (my other lifelong passion), and a couple of milk cows. Are we busy? Yes! Are we blessed! Yes! Would we live any other way? No!
