Michigan Phlox
Phlox is high summer in a single stem: big, rounded clusters of starry blooms in candy pinks, clean whites, and soft lavenders, carrying a sweet clove-like perfume that fills a whole room. It is the kind of flower that makes a bouquet feel generous.

About Phlox
Garden phlox brings high summer into a single stem, with big domed clusters built from dozens of small five-petaled blooms. The colors run from crisp white through every shade of pink and rose to violet and magenta, many carrying a contrasting eye at the center. What truly sets it apart is the perfume, a sweet, clove-like fragrance that can fill a whole room from one generous bunch.
The tall, fragrant phlox we grow for cutting is Phlox paniculata, a species of the eastern United States that thrives in Michigan gardens without being genuinely wild here. Our state does have its own native relative, the low, spring-blooming wild blue phlox (Phlox divaricata), which carpets rich woodlands across Michigan long before the garden types open. Both are welcome to butterflies and other pollinators, part of why phlox feels so alive on a warm summer day.
Phlox drinks heavily and begins to fade soon after cutting, so it rarely survives long shipping in good shape. Cut at the right moment by our member farmers and moved straight into water, our phlox reaches you fragrant and full rather than tired from days on a truck. Reserve a DIY bucket for a summer table, ask for phlox in a mixed bucket, or let our floral designers build it into an arrangement while the fields are at their peak.

Care & Vase Life
- Expect 5 to 8 days of vase life; cut stems on an angle and give them a deep, immediate drink.
- Strip lower leaves, which wilt and foul the water quickly on this thirsty flower.
- Pick off individual spent florets as they fade to keep the cluster looking fresh and open.
- Use flower food and top up or change the water often, since phlox drinks heavily.
- Keep out of hot sun and away from ripening fruit to slow petal drop.
When We Have Phlox
Phlox is a peak-summer flower, blooming from July through September across Michigan gardens and often reblooming if the weather stays mild. Warm days and steady moisture bring the fullest, most fragrant heads, while drought stress can shrink the clusters. Every stem is grown by our member farmers nearby, so colors and availability change week to week with their fields.
Availability shifts week to week with the Michigan season, so colors and varieties vary. Reserve ahead for events, and check the shop for what our farmers have cut this week.

Is phlox fragrant?
Yes, garden phlox is one of the more strongly scented cut flowers, with a sweet, clove-like perfume that can fill a room.
How long does cut phlox last?
It typically holds 5 to 8 days; removing spent florets and keeping the water fresh helps the cluster look its best.
Why do the lower leaves wilt first?
Phlox is a thirsty flower, so lower foliage often flags early. Stripping those leaves and giving stems a deep drink keeps the blooms hydrated.
What colors does phlox come in?
Expect white, pink, rose, coral, lavender, and magenta, many with a contrasting eye at the center, depending on which varieties our farmers have in bloom.
