The Farmer's Notes
(Update 8-17-2025) 10-stem bunches. Long stems, bright green foliage. (*flowers bloom in spring. I'll not plan to cut flower heads unless you ask for them specifically*).
This is a plant that works for both pollinators and flower designers all season long. In the spring, it's got bright yellow flowers that are reminiscent of dill, and as those fade, the green foliage stays healthy looking and is long lasting in arrangements.
Flowers have faded to a mauve color, but I won't cut those unless you ask specifically for them.
From Prairienursery.com:
Golden Alexanders is covered with brilliant golden, three to four inch-wide umbels that bloom for several weeks in late spring.
Zizia aurea is a host plant for the Black Swallowtail and the Ozark Swallowtail – which lay eggs on umbelliferous plants in the Apiaceae family, including parsley, parsnip and dill.
